GAC shows its electric transformer car in motion for the first time

GAC Group has attended the Tech Day in China with a futuristic concept vehicle named GOVE, designed to be equally capable on the ground and in the air. Per Elektrek, the company has already conducted a successful test flight near its HQ.

Such vehicles will constitute a major part of the GAC product lineup in the future, the company stressed. No specific timeframes were mentioned.

If you were wondering what ‘GOVE’ could mean, it is apparently an abbreviation of ‘GAC’, ‘On the Go’, ‘Vertical’ and ‘EV’. In other words, it is an electric car combined with a VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing vehicle). To that end, it has a ground unit and an aerial unit that can work in tandem or detach from each other when needed.

A squat four-wheel chassis accommodates a single-seat passenger pod. When the pod detaches from the chassis, it sprouts six arms with two rotors mounted on each. As the pod lifts off and carries the passenger away, the chassis uses the company’s signature ADiGO autopilot system to drive itself to the nearest charging station. The aerial pod also uses an autopilot system of its own.

All technical specifics remain to be revealed.
