GAC has introduced the Aion HT, an electric SUV that closely resembles Tesla’s Model X in overall body shape and especially the rear door design. It is coming to the market of China with a few powertrain options to choose from and up to 770 km (478 miles) of range.
The cheapest spec gets a single motor with 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) and 355 Nm (262 lb-ft) of torque. It needs 6.8 seconds for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint and has 600 km (373 miles) of CLTC-rated range. 400-volt power architecture lets it get enough power for another 140 km (87 miles) of driving in 10 minutes plugged into a charging station.
The three higher specs utilize a superior 800-volt platform and a motor rated at 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft). They two mid specs reach 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and run out of power after 670 km (416 miles) of driving, while the top spec gets the 770 km mentioned above. Thanks to the higher voltage, 10 minutes of charging can recover 450 km (280 miles) of range.
Rear seat occupants get individual adjustments, extendable footrests and tables. The front passenger seat can be folded down into an ottoman. The driver gets a large head unit, a small dashboard mounted close to the windshield, and an unusual-looking three-spoke steering wheel.
