GAC Honda announces a new crossover SUV

GAC-Honda JSC has released the first images of what it calls ‘Honda ZR-V’, a crossover SUV for China. No specifics have been revealed, but the images make us think of the marque’s other subcompact SUV, the HR-V, which debuted in the USA not long ago.

According to the manufacturer, the letter Z is intended to symbolize “the third variable in math”, a “brand-new car ownership experience”, and “Generation Z”. The latter clearly refers to the main target audience of the model.

Judging by the sketches, the ZR-V is mainly different from the HR-V on a stylistic level. For example, it has different wheels and tailpipes, and comes finished in Nordic Forest.

The rest is open to speculation at this moment. If we assume that the two models come based on the same chassis, then it means the ZR-V uses the architecture of the Dongfeng-Honda Civic. GAC-Honda JSC also has access to this platform, because it makes a local version of the Integra, which is essentially a Civic sedan with revised looks.

The ZR-V will reach the domestic market later this year, while the HR-V is expected to become available in the USA this summer.
