GAC announces the Trumpchi Yue 7, a large hybrid off-roader

The part-electric Trumpchi Yue 7 is slated to go on sale in China in early fall, but most technical parameters are already available.

According to GAC, the full-size SUV features an internal frame in its load-bearing body. It commands adaptive dual-shock suspension, air-cushioned springs, two mechanical diff locks between the wheels, and whopping nine drive presets. Drivers can switch between these as they see fit or let the electronics on board decide for them based on terrain analysis.

On the outside, the Trumpchi Yue 7 is a large SUV at 5,045 mm (198.6 inches) long, 2,004 mm (78.9 inches) wide and 1,933 mm (76.1 inches) tall with 2,900 mm (114.2 inches) of wheelbase. It can be configured to have up to 310 mm (12.2 inches) of ground clearance, which lets it have an approach angle of 30 degrees and a departure angle of 33 degrees. Wheels come in 18-inch and 20-inch sizes.

Powering the ride is a petrol generator delivering electricity to two electric motors driving the four wheels with a combined 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW). With the larger of the two available batteries, the all-electric range will max out at 188 kilometers (116 miles).

Complementing the boxy and rugged exterior is a matching cabin with plenty of physical buttons to access all the in-car features you may need. The head unit sports a large 15.6-inch display, while the digital dashboard is implemented as three standalone rounded screens mildly stylized after old-school dash gauges.

Preorders will open in early September, GAC reports. All prices should be announced closer to the launch date.
