Tesla’s more affordable rival debuts in China

Geely has held a reveal event in China dedicated to its new all-electric sedan/saloon temporarily known as the GE11. The car is being actively marketed as a cheaper alternative to the Tesla Model 3.

The company is currently running a competition to give its Geely GE11 a better name for the global market.

The car is 4,736 mm (15.54 ft.) long, 1,804 mm (5.92 ft.) wide and 1.503 mm (4.93 ft.) tall with 2,700 mm (8.86 ft.) between the axles.

Its interior clearly mimics that of the Tesla, complete with the same enormous infotainment touchscreen display and the same dual-spoke steering wheel design. That said, the Chinese car also has another color display behind the wheel, as well as a HUD.

Until you start the engine, you may think there are no physical controls in the entire car. The truth is, all hardware buttons lie concealed under the interior trim and only become visible when you activate the engine and, in turn, the dashboard backlighting.

The car draws its power from a single electric motor rated at 177 hp (132 kW). The manufacturer doesn’t mention the battery capacity or the available range for some reason. Available equipment includes automatic emergency brake and adaptive cruise control.

The Geely GE11 will ship in spring.
