Along with the Emgrand and Emgrand GL models, Geely has spruced up another C+ class four-door vehicle: the Binrui, which it co-designed with Volvo using the BMA platform.
The original Binrui debuted a few years ago as a modern sedan with a sporty image and younger target demographic. Its new basic trim level bows this week, and it is called F-Type. There has been no statement from Jaguar Land Rover on the possible copyright violation.
However it is, the China-made F-Type sports new bumpers, a radiator grille that lacks the company’s signature concentric pattern, black trim parts, a modest-sized rear spoiler, “F” badges and contrasting interior details. In its Asian Games Version guise, the car gets regular production wheels, chrome trim parts and a single-tone interior.
The 1.0-liter turbo engine is no longer available. The 1.4-liter turbo-four has been reworked and now produces 141 PS (139 hp / 104 kW) and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of torque. With manual transmission leaving the lineup, CVT remains as the only option.
Sales in China will start later this month, at a minimum price that translates into U.S. $14,000.
