Geely may not be the first name associated with eco-friendly tech, but it has shown its dedication to producing all-electric cars by patenting a wireless charging device for them.
The patent was filed on April 18, 2019, but only approved today. Included are transmitter sensors, charging coils assembled into a single unit, and a charge controller.
Geely did not exactly tread new ground with its invention, as NIO filed a patent application for a similar system on April 27, 2017. What’s more, the design proposed by NIO promised about the same charging efficiency regardless of the position of the car towards the charger and its distance from it.
Chinese IT giant Huawei also came up with something similar. The corporation spoke about its invention around a month ago, claiming that it would fit all kinds of vehicles, including all-electric cars, hybrids, and self-driving cars.
Comparable inventions had been patented by BYD, FAW, SAIC, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo, however, none of the companies mentioned above has brought them to the mass market yet.
In other recent news, Geely unveiled an all-electric design study named Vision Starburst, which can be found in our gallery.
