Chinese automotive giant Geely has announced the development of a nationwide network for fast swapping of car batteries. The E-Energee Project will take four years to implement and should culminate in the opening 5,000 EV battery stations throughout the entire country.
Geely Technology Group, a subsidiary of Geely Holding, started working on the project four years ago by hiring another 1,000 employees. The first station was launched in Chongqing in last September, and now, a dozen of provinces all around China have such stations. By 2025, EV drivers will probably not have to worry about low charge anymore.
The battery swap process if fully automatic and takes only 59 seconds. Interestingly, drivers are allowed to stay inside their cars because the procedure is completely safe.
Tesla showed us a similar project eight years ago, but never went beyond building a few prototypes. The battery swap took 1.5 minutes.
