Geely Emgrand L Hi-X bows in China with 1,300 kilometers of hybrid range

The Emgrand L family welcomes its new “Hi-X” member in China, which combines an internal combustion engine with an electric system for an impressive 1,300 km (808 miles) of driving range.

The company claims its newest sedan consumes 3.8 liters of gas per 100 kilometers, which for our U.S. readers translates into a little under 62 MPG. On the outside, the car sports the same giant front grille, headlights and bumper with impressively sized vertical air intakes as its cousins.

Some differences can still be seen: for instance, the Geely logo is white instead of black, new wheels are aerodynamically shaped and measure 17 inches across, and there are a few vivid color accents in some places, like between the intakes and the grille.

The demo photos show the sedan with a grey and green cabin echoing an Aurora White exterior (the finish is new). There is no mention of other options anywhere, and AutoHome.cn believes this could be the only color scheme available for the hybrid.

Inside, there is a small transmission joystick Geely calls “Thor” instead of a conventional lever. A 10.25-inch digital dashboard and a 12.3-inch infotainment display both support multimedia output, and all software is updated over the air.

A 1.5-liter turbocharged three-pot under the hood receives assistance from an electric motor and a starter-generator. The engine functions as a power generator for the main e-motor, but can also switch to powering the wheels when necessary using a DHT Pro three-speed gearbox. The cumulative output makes 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 6.9 seconds.
