China-based IT giant Baidu has unveiled the Jidu Robo-01, a powerful self-driving electric car co-designed with Geely Automotive based on the latter’s SEA platform.
No specific numbers or parameters have been revealed except with regard to the autopilot. Apparently, the car has two pop-up LiDARs, five radars, a dozen of cameras and just as many ultrasonic sensors, as well as 31 other sensors.
Other notable features of the concept include an active rear-spoiler, animated headlights and suicide rear doors made possible by the lack of b-pillars.
A look inside reveals a giant touchscreen with no hardware buttons on the dashboard. As soon as the driver enables autopilot, the car retracts the steering wheel into the dash panel.
Baidu said earlier that the concept would preview the production car with 90% precision, which sounds rather ambitious given what we see here. Rumors from earlier claimed that the company intended to start sales later this year, but there is still no official launch date.
