Geely Boyue L (Atlas) hits production in China

Geely has officially announced the production start of its new car, the Boyue L, which is known outside of China as the Atlas. The next generation of the Boyue is scheduled to reach the domestic dealerships later this year.

The production is taking place at the Ningbo factory in eastern China. The factory was only commissioned eight years ago, but Geely still saw the need to invest around $14,000,000 into upgrading it.

With the switch to the CMA unitized architecture (the old-gen Boyue ran on Geely underpinnings), the SUV has grown in size and now measures 4,670 x 1,900 x 1,705 millimeters L/W/H. This makes it 126 mm (6 inches) longer than the Atlas Pro model. The wheelbase amounts to 2,777 mm.

On the exterior side of things, the car follows the brand’s latest design direction set by the futuristic Vision Starburst concept revealed in 2021. It boasts fang-shaped headlight elements and boxy wheel arches, among other things. Inside, the main feature is an infotainment system with a large display, 5G support and over-the-air updates.

At first, customers will only be able to order the SUV with two four-cylinder engines to choose from. One is a 1.5L turbo rated at 181 PS (179 hp / 133 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. The other is a larger 2.0L turbo variant capable of 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft). Both use the same dual-clutch transmission and drive the front axle. Later on, a hybrid spec based on the 1.5L engine is set to come out, but its specs remain unannounced.

All prices are pending.
