2019 Geely Emgrand GS facelift brings major improvements across the board

The Geely Emgrand GS five-door hatchback/SUV has already received its mid-generational refresh in 2018, but it appears that the Chinese car manufacturer wanted to do much more with the model.

The 2019 Geely Emgrand GS facelift is primarily about new and improved tech. First, there is a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine linked to a wet-clutch DCT gearbox. Its power reportedly amounts to 177 hp (132 kW) and 255 Nm (188 lb×ft) of torque.

The car will now be available with a non-PHEV hybrid powertrain that would enable it to sprint from nothing to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds. The old engines – the 1.4T and the 1.8, both rated at 133 hp / 100 kW – are still on offer, too.

The 2019 upgrade brings along numerous optional electronic driver aids. These include adaptive cruise control complete with the automatic emergency brake and lane control features, adaptive headlights, and traffic sign/pedestrian/cyclist recognition.

Customers will be able to get their Geely Emgrand GS in two trim versions, Elegant and Dynamics. Differences boil down to wheel and fromt bumper design.

Inside, changes have been made to the steering wheel, the gear selector, and the infotainment system.

Sales in China will begin in a few weeks, with prices still to be announced. The pre-facelift version currently sells between U.S. $11,000 and $17,000.
