Geely Haoyue goes upmarket with an ‘L’ version

The original Geely Haoyue SUV hit the market in the summer of 2020, but never sold well. Instead of attempting a redesign, the company decided to launch an upmarket alternative called the ‘L’.

You might think that the letter stands for ‘long wheelbase’, but this is hardly the case here. The new model has only 10 millimeters (0.4 inches) of extra space between the axles and rides 10 mm higher than the standard Haoyue. More importantly, its front and rear ends are largely new with restyled bumpers, lighting, and so on.

Inside, the lower dashboard is the only thing that stays intact. The driver now enjoys a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, and the infotainment screen measures 12.3 inches corner-to-corner. The entire trim is different and makes intensive use of soft inserts.

Finally yet importantly, the new Haoyue L packs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine giving it 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW). The original car makes do with a 1.8-liter turbo engine capable of 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. All-wheel drive remains unavailable.
