Geely unleashes Panda Knight baby SUV in China

The Panda Knight is Geely’s latest microcar for the domestic market. It is based on the existing Panda model, is 3.1 meters (10.1 feet) long and only differs from the original on the visual side; the small-time electric motor is the same.

Compared to the regular Panda, the Knight wears a rugged-looking trim with more sophisticated bumpers, a new radiator grille and vivid color accents on the roof rails, the towing eyes and the hood ‘handles’. There is even a mini-ladder leading to the roof and a cute tailgate spoiler.

At 3,135 x 1,565 x 1,655 mm large, the Knight is slightly larger than the base model in all dimensions. The wheelbase stays unchanged at 2,015 mm (78.7 inches). With the rear seats folded, it actually has a semi-decent trunk size of 800 liters (28 cubic feet).

The interior follows a two-tone color scheme and is identical to the standard Panda cabin in everything except the trimming materials, which are slightly less cheap. A compact 8-inch display serves as the dash screen, and a 9.2-inch display fulfills the function of the infotainment screen.

The only electric motor available churns out 41 PS (40 hp / 30 kW) and 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) of torque. A small LiFePo4 battery guarantees up to 200 km (124 miles) of range, and charging it from 30 to 80 percent only takes half an hour as long as you can plug it into a 22kW DC charger.

The local media assume that the microcar will go on sale in September under Geely’s Geometry branding, priced from 55,000 Yuan or so.
