Genesis previews its future EVs with a futuristic concept

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe aims to showcase the brand’s latest EV design philosophy called Athletic Elegance. There was no mention of a production run, but company Chief Designer Luc Donckerwolke admitted the car was not simply a design study.

There is a familiar-looking radiator grille shape at the front, but a closer look reveals those are just LED lights running from the front clip to the fenders. The design team says no traditional headlights are necessary here. The rear end and taillights are styled in a similar fashion. The name of the coupe – Speedium – references a racetrack in South Korea.

Interior design and technical parameters are not discussed at all, because the whole concept focuses on showing the exterior design evolution of the Genesis brand. Despite this, Donckerwolke refuses to call it simply a ‘concept’. He argues that it also provides a look at the design processes going on in Genesis and the brainstorming that accompanies developing an all-new lineup of electric vehicles based on recognizable Genesis DNA.

Overall, the new study develops the design the X Coupe Concept from last year pioneered (watch the video if you missed that one). The automaker never revealed any cabin or powertrain details for that one, either.
