Speaking in an interview with Car Expert, Genesis Creative Director voiced the opinion that the trend toward abandoning the sedan segment of the market was a ‘big mistake’ and the automakers doing it would soon regret their decisions. He added that the Korean premium brand would continue to focus on two- and four-door cars, but would also look into expanding its SUV lineup, to a point where it would be able to compete with the Mercedes G-Class.
According to the executive, there should be no such thing as ignoring a whole car type simply because the others are performing better financially at the moment. On the other hand, Genesis stands to benefit from any other companies pulling back from the market.
Speaking of new releases, he said a new all-electric convertible would be introduced soon based on the X Speedium Concept (pictured below). As for the G-Class competitor, we have no details on it so far, but the Hyundai-Kia alliance has a proprietary body-on-frame platform that could, in theory, be used for the production.
