The Genesis G80 may be officially four years old, but is actually based on the 2nd-gen Hyundai Genesis sedan, which dates back to 2013. No wonder a new generation is in the works, as evidenced by these spy shots.
The Korean automaker surely knew where to look for challenging weather conditions: the photos come from Surgut, Russia, which is located beyond the Arctic Circle. The cladding doesn’t reveal much, but we would say that the new G80 has roughly the same profile as its predecessor while sporting GV80-like two-tier headlights and a bumper-mounted rear license plate.
Engine availability remains unknown. Rumors say the new G80 will get a twin-turbocharged V6 in its top-performance version, which means the 5.0-liter V8 becomes history. Other likely options include a 2.5-liter turbo-four and a couple hybrids.
The new Genesis G80 should celebrate its premiere in the next few months.
