Genesis EVs may get wireless charging ahead of the competition

Future Genesis cars may get a serious advantage before other battery-powered vehicles, including the Teslas: the wire-free charging capability.

The company plans to make it a paid option for its upcoming G80 EV and the crossover provisionally known as the JW, which comes based on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 chassis. Small U.S.-based tech firm WiTricity will produce the charging devices despite having no prior experience working with a large corporation like Genesis.

The charger unit will consist of two parts: the charge emitter, which will be built into the parking place and plugged into the mains, and the receiver, which will be mounted at the bottom of the car.

Many companies, BMW included, are currently looking into making their electric cars chargeable without the need for cables. However, it looks like Genesis may have a head start here.
