The Genesis G90 is set to hit the showroom floors in late 2022 packing an SAE Level 3 autonomous driving system. Business Korea now claims the car will be capped at just 60 km/h (37 miles per hour) in this mode.
Enabling the autopilot will be only possible in near-perfect road conditions. As soon as the car loses its ability to drive independently, it will signal for the driver to take over the controls at once. Drivers are therefore required to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times (but you can divert your eyes from the road from time to time).
In South Korea, Level 3 semi-autonomous vehicles are legally allowed to reach 100 km/h (62 mph), but elsewhere in the world they will be limited to 60 km/h (37.3 mph). The software on board will be configured in accordance with the international standards. As the technologies keep evolving, the limits may go up, too.
