Genesis will be expanding the list of options for its all-electric GV60 model in Europe next year to include face recognition, Motor1 reports. The system is called Face Connect and eliminates the need to use a normal key fob.
Face Connect uses a recognition sensor along with a machine-learning control unit. The owner only needs to set up the standard key fob access once, after which locking and unlocking the car will be as simple as looking into a camera. For rainy weather and nighttime, the system uses infrared lighting.
The innovation will open GV60 owners access to a large number of other features as well. For example, the car can be configured to apply personal seat adjustments, HVAC profile and infotainment settings once it recognizes a familiar face. The memory supports storing two permanent profiles. A fingerprint scanner will also be provided for key-free engine starting.
The manufacturer believes active leisure enthusiasts will be the first to appreciate the novelty, because carrying your car keys along everywhere can be cumbersome. It is emphasized that no third parties will be able to get unauthorized access to your personal data.
It is worth mentioning that Face Connect is already being offered as a paid option for the GV60 in the United States and South Korea.
