Genesis has only recently unveiled the South Korean spec of its first-ever SUV, which notably had only one powertrain – and a diesel one at that. Today, the company clarified that the car ships with two more powertrain options.
The previously announced diesel turbo has three liters of displacement and produces 278 horsepower (207 kilowatts) along with 588 Nm (434 lb-ft) of maximum torque. This engine will later make it under the hood of other Hyundai Motor Group vehicles as well, Genesis said. As for the GV80, it will be shipping with two latest-gen gasoline engines in the USA.
One of these is the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit used by the Hyundai Sonata N Line and the Kia K5/Optima. Although it comes transversely mounted on the latter two, the engine will be longitudinally mounted on the GV80, and will churn out 305 hp (227 kW).
The other one is a V6 3.5 Smartstream turbo with 375 hp (280 kW) at the output.
Both engines feature a combined fuel injection system that injects gasoline into the intake manifold and each of the cylinders simultaneously. Both connect to the same eight-speed automatic transmission, but you may choose between RWD and on-demand AWD.
Other than that, the U.S.-spec GV80 remains identical to its South Korean sibling. This includes three seat rows, heated/ventilated second row, active noise cancelling, adaptive cruise control, and many other options.
The Genesis GV80 should hit the showrooms throughout the USA this summer.
