Genesis fixes up its GV80 3.0L diesel option, resumes production

Genesis unveiled its first crossover SUV – the GV80 – in the beginning of the year, but customers started complaining about the performance of their diesel versions in June quoting uneven dynamics and idle mode vibrations. Today, the automaker has announced that both issues were resolved.

Genesis had to put the production of its SmartStream 3.0-liter, six-cylinder turbo diesel engine on hold early this summer to troubleshoot the issues. Ten weeks later, the defects have been officially announced eliminated – but no explanation was provided as to their origin and nature. For the time being, the company is churning out minimal production amounts for further testing and will be re-launching the lines at full capacity once it confirms that everything is in working order.

All diesel SUVs produced before June 11, 2020 get their warranty periods extended from five years / 100,000 km to ten years / 200,000 km.

Despite all the engine-related controversy, the Covid-19 pandemic and the partial production line load, the GV80 still managed to become wildly successful on its domestic market of South Korea, selling nearly 20,000 units there.
