Hummer EV specs revealed, 1-3 motors confirmed

Following the big announcement of the GMC Hummer EV truck a week ago, the manufacturer is releasing some of its preliminary characteristics.

For one, it is now official that the car will be available in a variety of trim levels, the topmost one packing as many as three electric motors.

According to GM CEO, the Hummer will be getting a couple hardcore off-road versions alongside the all-rounder main spec.

The different trims will mainly offer different amounts of horsepower and range. When the company revealed that the Hummer EV would get 1,000 hp (745 kW) and sprint 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in three seconds flat, it must have obviously meant the range-topping spec.

Judging by most other similar vehicles out there, we would expect the triple-motor powertrain to function as follows: a single motor drives the front axle, and the rear wheels get a motor each.

The GMC Hummer EV should reach production in the fall of 2021, almost at the same time as the Tesla Cybertruck, which will also ship with between one and three engines. Their main rivals on the battery truck market – the Lordstown Endurance and the Rivian R1T – will both pack four motors.

Watch the teaser video for a brief glimpse at the car, but note that the full-size image here is an unofficial 3D rendering, rather than anything based on the real Hummer EV.
