Microchip crisis will blow over soon, GM CEO believes

General Motors CEO May Barra opined that the situation with the microelectronic part supplies in the car industry was going to improve in the second half of the year.

The expected end of the semiconductor shortage should enable GM to raise its production volumes by 30 percent compared to the previous year. Barra pointed out that, in her opinion, the microchip offer had been expanding lately due to manufacturers adjusting their demand patterns.

For instance, sales of mobile devices and wearables, which skyrocketed during the pandemic, are declining again, freeing up parts to be used in the automotive industry.
