Cruise, a self-driving car developer and part of General Motors, has recalled its entire autonomous fleet from the streets after one of its robotaxis crashed into a double passenger bus on March 23, 2023.
An internal investigation revealed that ‘under certain circumstances’, the autopilot software on board incorrectly plots the path for driving around particularly large vehicles such as double-length ‘caterpillar’ buses, tractors and long trailers.
According to Cruise, a software update has already addressed the issue. It still needs to be installed on all the cars being tested on public roads, though.
A total of 300 vehicles have been recalled for an in-house firmware upgrade.
