GM Defense: Hummer EV may get the U.S. Army interested

Around three decades ago, the army-issue SUV called HMMWV – or just “Humvee” for short – provided the foundation for an iconic civilian off-roader, the Hummer. History inverts itself now with the news that the impending GMC Hummer EV might be of interest to the U.S. Army.

According to David Albritton, Head of GM Defense, the new Hummer could very well make a capable all-terrain vehicle for the military forces. He pointed out that the company had received no such offers so far.

The electric truck will get up to three engines joining their efforts for 1,000 hp (750 kW), enabling it to blast off from standstill to 60 mph (97 km/h) in mere three seconds. Its traction battery will provide it with up to 400 miles (644 kilometers) of range and will support rapid charging via 350-kW stations.

The only official image we have of the new Hummer is its front bumper; the rest of the body shown on the pics here is fan-made and unofficial. The car itself never celebrated its show premiere due to the pandemic, but GM reports that the production remains scheduled for 2021 and the sales start for the autumn of that year.
