The GMC Hummer EV has modular architecture underpinnings and packs Ultium Drive tech along with a potent Ultium battery. The Ultium Drive manages to combine an electric motor, a single reduction gear and all the required electronics in a single unit. Apparently, the technological sophistication of the drive does not prevent the new Hummer from challenging serious off-road conditions.
The car’s approach angle varies between 415 and 49.7 degrees, the departure angle lies between 31.6 and 38.4 degrees, and the ground clearance ranges from 257 to 404 millimeters (10 – 15.8 inches), depending on your chosen model. The truck can wade water as tall as 813 mm (2’8”) and climb 45-centimeter (18-inch) tall steps.
As for the Crab Mode, it turns all wheels 10 degrees to the side and enables sidling while barely moving forward. This could be useful on very narrow trails where high movement precision is required and you cannot just maneuver back and forth.
