GMC enters the Extreme E off-road racing series

General Motors Truck Company and Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) will participate in this year’s racing tournament held among battery SUVs and trucks, the FIA Extreme E.

The racecar will be styled after the upcoming GMC Hummer EV, but don’t be misled: it will actually be based on the Odyssey 21 racer designed by French automaker Spark Racing Technology. The Odyssey 21 packs 400 kilowatts (544 PS / 536 hp) and has nothing in common with the Hummer EV except looks. Teams are free to tweak the design and modify select components of the vehicle.

Five tournament stages are planned for this year, the first one scheduled to take place in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia, on April 3-4. The Extreme E series aims to promote electric cars and renewable energy sources worldwide.
