GM reveals roadmap for its new Detroit factory

General Motors has invited President Joe Biden to the opening ceremony of its new factory in Detroit, which will be producing zero-emission cars. Here is what the company plans to do with its new production capacities.

The truck-bodied GMC Hummer EV will be the first priority for the coming several months. The first customers who pre-ordered it should get their trucks in late 2021. An SUV on the same platform and an all-electric Silverado are next in queue.

Details about future releases are few, but one can draw conclusions based on the fact that the corporation uses the same technological platform – the Ultium GM – for all of its vehicles. As such, the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV look like prime candidates for production in 2022.

During his visit, President Biden inspected the entire industrial complex to have a closer look at all the equipment and workspaces. GM commented that it envisioned 2,000 jobs at the site by the time it reaches full production capacity.
