The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Pickup with the VIN no. 001 went under the hammer last spring for $2.5 million, and has now successfully passed its pre-production QA for shipping.
The regular truck in this spec starts from $110,925, but this example is the first of the series, so it comes with a premium. It sports an Interstellar White finish with a Lunar Horizon interior theme. Three electric motors propel it with around 1,000 horsepower (750 kilowatts), while the peak torque on the wheels can hit 15,591 Nm (11,500 lb-ft). Getting from zero to highway speed takes three second, and a 24-cell battery yields around 530 km (329 miles) of range on a charge.
There is an electronically lockable differential at the front axle and two motors in the back combined into a single unit called Ultium Drive. A system named e4WD can make all wheels work in sync when needed.
Once the assembly was finished, the truck went to the company’s proving ground in Detroit where it underwent extensive off-road performance and battery capacity tests. The car waded water, climbed rocks, plowed its way through sand and held tight to slippery roads. It then returned to the factory for a thorough QA check, a good wash and shipping to the owner.
