GMC, the marque that graced us with the weird-yet-beautiful Hummer EV, sold out the entire 2022MY batch of trucks, giving rise to unsatisfied demand and tempting flippers to sell their vehicles for more than double the price.
Back when you still could, you could buy a Hummer EV starting at around $110,000. This example has around 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) under its belt, but someone paid $275,000 for it at an auction.
It is an Edition 1 truck optioned to the max. A trio of engines drives its wheels with 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW), and owners take advantage of a few exclusive motor and chassis modes not available in cheaper modifications.
One of these, dubbed Watts to Freedom, lets you nail the launch and hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in around three seconds. Another one, called the Crab Walk, lets you sidle diagonally on challenging trails. Further tech-heavy features of note include Super Cruise Control and adaptive air suspension.
The production of the trucks began in late 2021. All Edition 1 units come finished in white with 18-inch wheels and a black top with removable panels.
As ridiculous as the selling price may sound, Carscoops points out it is not record high. Another GMC Hummer EV with half the mileage on it went under the hammer for $286,000 a few weeks ago.
The first production example with the VIN 001 showing on its chassis was auctioned off by GMC itself. It made $2.5 million USD, which the company said would be donated to charity funds.
