The Army of the United States has acquired one electric GMC Hummer pickup to conduct a series of tests and see if it can be useful in a variety military applications.
According to Stephen S. duMont, President of GM Defense, the battery-powered truck will demonstrate its groundbreaking technology and unique capabilities to the department of defense. It remains to be seen whether it will be adopted by the army or not.
Back in 2021, the GM’s military equipment division announced working on a reconnaissance truck based on the Hummer EV platform. The vehicle is being designed with the same frame and transmission, but an extensively modified body. It is unclear whether the today’s announcement is related to that project or concerns the normal, civilian-issue Hummer EV.
