At 5,507 mm long, 2,202 mm wide sand weighing over four metric tons, the GMC Hummer EV is a humongous truck. But could there be a market niche for a smaller alternative? There could, according to Automotive News quoting people allegedly familiar with the GM and its agenda.
We are told that a more compact Hummer is already being considered by the executives, and that its design concept has already been drawn up at the carmaker’s Californian HQ. Per Automotive News, chances are good that such a truck will soon be greenlit into production, because it is considered high priority. At the same time, General Motors has its hands tied right now trying to expand the production of the original Hummer EV, which has overshot all demand expectations by a large margin.
The alleged mini-Hummer would also stand better chances of going overseas, to Europe, where its larger cousin would simply be too big to fit. It would even cost less than the $110,000 of the original. Still, we will have to wait until we can prove these reports: with over 90,000 pre-orders waiting to be processed, GM has halted sales and is now looking to expand its industrial capacities first.
