General Motors Defense, the company’s division responsible for communication with the U.S. Department of Defense, has shared a preview of an army vehicle with GMC Hummer EV underpinnings. Whether it will ever be mass-produced remains unknown, but the company argues that electric vehicles have their undisputable advantages on the battlefield.
Dubbed the Electric Military Concept Vehicle, the pickup has been simplified both in the visual sense and in terms of design. The entire front end was redone as a single solid armor panel. The doors and the roof lack any paneling and are composed of simple tube-frames. The interior houses six separate seats.
The company mentions Fox shocks, 37-inch tires and optimized body geometry without delving into details. The powertrain stays stock: four electric motors rotate the wheels with 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 745 kW) and 15,590 Nm (11,500 lb-ft) of torque. The battery stores 212 kWh of power.
The design team behind the project believes that the EMCV may act as a surveillance vehicle or mobile command post. It can be fast and silent in off-road environments, and can provide emergency power to auxiliary equipment in the field. Just how easy to repair it is going to be remains outside of the discussion.
