Even among EV enthusiasts, the bulky and heavy GMC Hummer EV is often bashed as an environmentally unclean abomination of a car built to eat through tires and asphalt. The point that gets missed here is that such cars exist to please the egos of their owners – the one in the video being no exception.
The first thing you notice is that the truck is rolling on huge 30-inch aftermarket wheels finished in white. They do not fit inside the stock arches, so the suspension is lifted to accommodate them – something that probably makes handling the 9,600-pound truck (that’s 4,355 kilos) even more difficult.
Adding insult to injury is the fact that the Hummer EV slides sideways on the road using the manufacturer-provided Crab Mode. Electric motors installed one per every wheel make it easy to turn all four wheels in the same direction. That said, the feature requires the driver to go below 32 km/h (20 mph) and is not supposed to be used on public roads – it’s meant for overlanding, in theory, at least.
Last but not least, you can see the driver swerving into the opposing lane in the video. We are not aware of any consequences, but they could get fined and have their license revoked for dangerous driving like this in the USA.
