General Motors has taken the wraps off the next generation of its Sierra Heavy Duty pickup truck. Let’s have a closer look at what’s on offer this time around.
Most of the novelty comes in the form of new base options and safety features. For instance, all 2020 models will ship with a set of 15 all-around view cameras, truck bed lighting, tire pressure and temperature control, the ‘Maintenance needed’ warning indicator, and a diagnostic system that checks the main units of the car prior to each start.
The 2020 Sierra Heavy Duty also features such driver aids as the parking assist, electronic handbrake, hill climb assist, trailer brake control, Tow Mode etc.
On the outside, the pickup has new LED-based fog lights and roof-mounted marker lights, a differently-styled radiator grille, and knife-shaped headlights. The car is now also larger than before.
All trim versions will invariably ship with a 6.6L turbocharged diesel engine rated at 445 hp (332 kW) and 1,233 Nm (909 lbft) of torque. Coupled with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, it will support towing trailer attachments weighing up to 13.5 metric tons (30,000 lb).
Among other things, the GMC Sierra Heavy Duty family will expand to incorporate a new member called the AT4. The dedicated off-road trim offers 18-inch wheels, heavy-duty bumpers, dark chrome accents, a different interior finish and a number of off-road assist options.
