A few months ago, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) previewed a range of options and equipment for the latest GMC Sierra 1500 pickup (see video). The company has now arrived at the Detroit Motor Show with a fully modded truck.
The crew worked on the AT4X spec, which allegedly ended up with more off-road equipment than ever before. This includes heavy-duty stainless-steel bumpers with recovery points and winch preparation at the front, as many as five bottom protection plates, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires wrapped around 18-inch AEV Salta wheels, and a revised front end.
Thanks to geometrical optimizations all around, the pickup now has approach, departure and breakover angles at 32.5, 23.4 and 23 degrees, respectively. The ground clearance is at 284 mm (11.1 inches) – just 10 mm (0.2 in) higher than standard.
Everything stays stock under the hood, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The 6.2-liter V8 still produces its usual 426 PS (420 hp / 313 kW) and 623 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque. Multimatic DSSV shocks, electronic diff locks and a single-pedal driving mode are all standard features of the AT4X spec the AEV Edition is based upon.
The sales will start in 2023, and the pricing remains to be revealed.
