GMC Denali feels lively with 740 horses packed under the hood

Late Model Racecraft continues turning utility vehicles into supercars: this 2024 GMC 1500 Sierra Denali may look stock, but it commands a potent gas V8 that replaced the standard diesel.

In case you need a reminder, the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo diesel that the latest GMC 1500 Denali ships with comes rated at 310 PS (305 hp / 227 kW) and 671 Nm (495 lb-ft) of torque. The new engine is a 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 mill upgraded with a custom camshaft, fuel internals and exhaust system. Once tuned, it can deliver up to 740 PS (730 hp / 544 kW) to the rear wheels on regular pump gas.

LMR points out that this kind of engine swap is compatible with most GMC trucks, but often necessitates a transmission upgrade. If you insist on keeping the stock ten-speed automatic as is, you may expect gains of up to 150 horsepower, but not more.

Check out the video to see how surprisingly good a Denali can be at doing burnouts and leaving tire marks.
