The new Toyota Wildlander comes based on the fifth generation of the RAV4 and is not available outside of China.
The car, which was introduced at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2019, is now available to pre-order. It is nearly identical to its donor in terms of exterior styling except for the bumpers and headlights. The Wildlander is 65 mm (2.6”) longer than the RAV4 thanks to the larger bumpers, but its width of 1,855 mm (6.09 feet), height of 1,680 mm (5.51 ft.) and wheelbase of 2,690 mm (8.83 ft.) stay the same.
The car ships with two engines to decide between: a 2.0-liter unit with 171 hp (128 kW) and CVT, and a 2.5-liter hybrid with dual electric motors, 222 hp (164 hp) total and E-CVT. The latter only consumes 4.6 liters of gasoline per 100 km covered, which roughly corresponds to 61 MPG in Great Britain and 51 MPG in the United States.
The ICE-powered off-roader is available in FWD and AWD versions, whereas the electrified one has the (permanent) E-Four AWD.
Production is currently underway at the GAC-Toyota joint enterprise in Guangzhou, China.
