Chinese car brand ORA has brought its modern re-imagination of the iconic Volkswagen Beetle dubbed Retrocat Concept to the 2021 Auto Shanghai show.
ORA will not admit it, but the design study is a spitting image of the original Beetle (watch the video and make your own comparison). The main difference on the outside is the extra pair of doors. Inside, there’s an abundance of aluminum details, a digital dashboard and a horizontal touch-sensitive display – in other words, everything that never made it into the original Beetle despite some fans’ pleas.
Technical details aren’t there yet, but since Great Wall established ORA as a dedicated EV sub-brand, one can safely assume that the Retrocat is an electric car.
If the concept ever becomes a production car, this could happen in a year or two. The company provides no comment in this respect.
