Chinese carmaker Ora, which is a part of Great Wall Group, has come to the IAA Mobility with a production hatchback named Cat. A similar vehicle debuted under the name ‘Good Cat’ in China last fall.
The Ora Cat for Europe appears heavily influenced by the Volkswagen Beetle, the Fiat 500 and certain Alfa Romeo models, but its manufacturer insists it is just ‘a vintage-style car’ inspired by nothing in particular. The example exhibited at the Ora booth features a contrast roof.
Powertrain options remain to be announced. In China, the car is 4.2 meters long and ships with a single electric motor rated at 143 PS (141 hp / 105 kW) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque. The company promises up to 400 kilometers (248 miles) of driving range, but does not specify the measurement standard used.
In all likelihood, we will be hearing about the other modifications of the Ora Cat for Europe later this year, before it reaches the mass market.
In spring, the company unveiled another Cat family hatchback: the all-electric Punk Cat. It copied the Volkswagen Beetle so blatantly, the German automaker said it was investigating the legal side of the matter.
