Great Wall has submitted patent images of a new fastback-shaped EV called “Saloon Mecha Dragon”, the first car of the freshly created Saloon brand. Prices will start from 488,000 Chinese Yuan ($76,500 USD).
The final production car looks largely indistinguishable from the last year’s prototype (see video) from the Auto Guangzhou expo. Boxy outlines, sharp edges and a large display spanning nearly the entire width of the dash panel – everything stays as it was in the concept version.
There is also an extendable rear spoiler, comfortable headrests with lateral supports, and two steering wheel designs to choose from (standard two-spoke and squared-off sports wheel). A glance at the door cards fails to reveal any handles.
The manufacturer claims the car comes with a wireless charger station, which is also shown on the illustrations here. How fast or efficient it is remains to be announced. Using a standard wired charger replenishes 50 percent of the battery capacity within ten minutes.
Powering the premium EV are two electric motors producing 551 PS (543 hp / 405 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Great Wall claims over 800 km (500 miles) of range and points out a semi-autonomous driving system using as many as four LiDARs – more than any other production car currently has.
