Great Wall has brought its next top-of-the-range vehicle to the auto show in Chengdu, a pickup named the 山海炮, transcribed as ‘Shanhai Poer’. It remains to be announced what the official English name will be.
The truck is closely related to the Tank 500, as the identical front end and cabin indicate. Both share the same body-on-frame construction with per-wheel suspension at the front and spring-based suspension at the back. The vehicle is 5,440 mm (212.5 inches) long with 3,350 mm (130.9 inches) of wheelbase, and the company says a larger version will go on sale later with a bigger cargo bed.
Powering the Great Wall Shanhai Poer is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 assisted by a 48V starter-generator. The combined output amounts to 354 PS (349 hp / 260 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission drives all four wheels. As you can see, the specs are identical to those of the Tank 500. The manufacturer promises diesel and hybrid options later on.
