Great Wall is preparing a full-size hydrogen SUV for mass-market debut, says CarNewsChina publishing its patent shots. The vehicle will be released under new SAR branding (formerly known as Saloon) and become the Chinese automaker’s first practical result of experimenting with fuel cell powertrains.
The images depict a vehicle with long overhangs front and rear, an unusual-looking large bezel around the faux grille, and intricate d-pillars. These little quirks notwithstanding, it looks more or less generic.
Judging by certain exterior traits, the model will come loaded with modern driving assists. The niches at the front end could accommodate LiDARs, and the fenders below the side mirrors could house video cameras.
CarNewsChina adds that the SUV is 5.2 meters long with 3.2 meters of wheelbase, which is enough to make it a seven-seater. Inside, a giant display is depicted taking up most of the dashboard.
The fuel cell powertrain is expected to yield at least 840 km (522 miles) of range per charge.
