China unleashes a new Tank on the streets

Tank, a Chinese car manufacturer owned by Great Wall Holding, has revealed its next production SUV named simply the 500 along with pricing details.

The 3.0L V6 petrol variant of the odd-roader will start from 335,000 Chinese Yuan, or $52,700. This puts it in a rival position to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, although it is slightly longer than the Toyota due to a spare wheel cover in the back. More specifically, it is 5,070 mm long with 2,850 mm between the axles.

Opting for a Sport package adds a massive radiator grille with large horizontal bars and puts a spare wheel inside the aforementioned cover. Going for the Business trim changes the grille design to be more elegant and ditches the spare wheel altogether, reducing the total body length to 4,878 mm.

The car has 224 mm of ground clearance and can wade water up to 800 mm deep. Its approach and departure angles amount to 29.6 and 24 degrees, respectively.

Customers can choose between two and three seat rows for the interior. The trim scheme involves leather and wood, while dashboard is represented by a 12.3-inch digital display. A separate 14.6-inch central touchscreen serves the infotainment system, and there is also an analog clock in the cabin.

As a mild hybrid, the SUV uses a 3.0-liter V6 in tandem with a 48V electric starter for 354 PS (349 hp / 260 kW) and 500 Nm 369 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is nine-speed automatic, and all four wheels are driven thanks to a lockable interaxle coupling. Drivers can choose from 11 electronic drive modes.

Aside from Sport and Business trims, Tank 500 buyers in China get access to two more versions called Individual and Warrior. Both come with luxury equipment and styling, and ticking all the boxed will set you back 395,000 Yuan ($62,100).
