Leaked: Haval to axe the H9 before 2022

A photo of what looks like the current Haval production schedule has made it to the Internet, suggesting that Great Wall Motor Ltd. will be stopping the production of the H9 SUV permanently on December 31, 2021.

Speculations have been going on for a while that the off-roader would eventually fall out of production due to low domestic sales and competition from the marque’s own more modern vehicles. The latter mainly refers to the Tank 300, which comes based on the same platform and looks like it cosplays the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

In the meantime, the company used the Auto Guangzhou show as an opportunity to open pre-orders for another new model, the Tank 500. It reported over 22,500 pre-orders registered within 24 hours.

The H9 received its latest facelift in summer, getting a redesigned front end with a new bumper and a larger, bulkier radiator grille. A larger infotainment system display made it inside, too. You can have a look at it in our gallery and the enclosed video.

In contrast, the Tank 300 is a body-on-frame SUV that packs a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, an eight-speed A/T, AWD and differential locks. It would not be surprising to see it phase out the less popular H9 soon.
