Texas-based performance tuner and carmaker Hennessey Performance has congratulated Bugatti on setting a new acceleration record and promised to beat it with its upcoming hypercar, the Venom F5.
When Hennessey announced the Venom F5 two years ago, it promised a top going speed of 300 miles per hour (483 km/h). However, with the Chiron beating it to the mark, the company decided to up the ante with 310.6 mph (500 km/h) max speed.
Attaining this kind of acceleration shouldn’t prove too challenging for the Venom, which weighs in at just 1,338 kilograms (2,950 lbs), compared against the 1,995 kg (4,400 lbs) of the Chiron. It also boasts what appears to be slightly better drivetrain specs, squeezing a healthy 1,622 hp (1,210 kW) along with 1,762 Nm (1,300 pound-feet) of torque out of its 7.4-liter V8 engine. The Bugatti flagship has 1,600 hp (1,193 kW) and an unspecified amount of torque.
The Venom benefits from a purpose-designed seven-speed automatic transmission and accelerates from zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10 seconds flat. It reaches 300 km/h (186 mph) in 30 seconds.
Hennessey originally planned to begin production towards the end of the current year, but these plans remain to be confirmed. A total of 24 Venoms will leave the tuner’s garage priced at U.S. $1.6 million each.
