Texas-based tuner Hennessey Performance tore the veil off of its Venom F5 hypercar two years ago, but the production vehicle is still very much a work in progress. Today, the company found a way to bolster its specs by another 240 hp (180 kW).
The coupe comes powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V8 engine dubbed Fury. Not long ago, Hennessey said it would have 1,600 hp (1,193 kW). Today, it announced a successful boost to 1,840 PS (1,817 hp; 1,355 kW). The new maximum torque is 1,355 Nm (1,000 lb-ft), and the tuner says it is available between 2,000 and 8,000 RPM.
Given that the coupe weighs only 1,360 kilograms (3,000 lbs), this means a power-to-weight ratio exceeding 1 hp/kg.
Hennessey claims it will first dethrone the Bugatti Chiron Sport by breaking its 300.4 mph (482 km/h) speed record, and then accelerate the car all the way to 500 km/h (310 mph).
Officially, the Venom F5 is recognized as a production car, even though the entire planned series only includes 24 units. Most of these have already been sold in pre-orders, despite the fact that the tests are still ongoing, and the actual assembly is scheduled for next year at best.
