Hennessey Venom F5 hits 437 km/h during tests

Hennessey has taken its Venom F5 hypercar to another high this weekend, striking 437 km/h (271.6 miles per hour) on a NASA runway in Florida.

The company brought the vehicle to the airfield to make final adjustments to its suspension, brakes and aerodynamics. According to engineers, the car shapes up to be capable of 483 km/h (300 mph) or even 500 km/h (310 mph). A total of 12 units will be made, and the shipments are expected to begin later this year.

Power for the Hennessey Venom F5 comes from a 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 1,817 PS (1,792 hp / 1,336 kW) and 1,617 Nm (1,193 lb-ft) of torque. All that thrust goes to the rear axle and takes the coupe from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than three seconds. Hitting 200 km/h (124 mph) succeeds in 4.7 seconds.

During its tests last year, the Venom F5 was able to hit 320 km/h (200 mph) with its engine dialed down to 900 PS (888 hp / 662 kW), a mere half of its nominal output.
