Chinese car brand HiPhi has started unveiling its next EV, named simply ‘A’, days before its official debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show. It is considered an international model, but the sales outside of China will not begin until 2025.
The newcomer sports a futuristic look similar to that of the HiPhi Z (see video). It even manages to come across as more aggressive thanks to pronounced bumpers, unusual side sill extensions and a large rear wing. The manufacturer claims that at least some of the bodywork is made from carbon fiber. The rear doors swing open against the traffic, but the b-pillars are still present. The battery pack comes wrapped in a special kind of carbon fiber, too, but its capacity is unknown.
A trio of electric motors designed in-house by Human Horizons drives the wheels. Each motor unit has carbon parts in its structure and benefits from the latest in direct cooling technology, which enables running at near-peak capacity for roughly 30 minutes straight. With the power maxed out, the wheels get hit with 1,305 PS (1,287 hp / 960 kW). The car zaps 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in two seconds and hits 300 km/h (186 mph) before long.
Other notable features include air-ride suspension components, adaptive shocks with freely adjustable damping, carbon-ceramic brake discs and rear-wheel steering. The hardware on board is smart enough to ensure painstakingly precise per-wheel torque vectoring, with the company calling its technology ‘the best in industry’.
